The folk group "Artusin" was born in 2000 at the initiative of some founding members living in the municipalities of Roccaforte Mondovi and Villanova Mondovi. The name means "Rhododendron" and comes from the ancient language of Kyé, typical of the Occitan islands of Prea, Baracco and Rastello in the upper Ellero valley. The logo represents the classic mountain flower combined with the Catara Cross.

Throughout its history, the dance group has performed in many regions of Italy and in several European countries, in international festivals of folk groups, television broadcasts and traditional music and dance festivals in Italy and abroad. He organized gatherings of Occitan groups and participated in the Living Nativity of the village of Prea, Roccaforte Mondovi, with dancers as figurants.

The folkloristic group aims to introduce music and dances typical of the Occitan culture. At the same time, the association carries out cultural initiatives and research aimed at rediscovering and enhancing the traditions typical of the area. Organizes cooking classes and publishes books and videos on local history.

Costumes

The folk dance group is formed by about 15 pairs of dancers, dressed in traditional clothes typical of the Occitan villages of the upper Ellero valley. The costumes used in public performances recall the clothes of the "party" used in 800 in high Ellero valley. The models were obtained from oral traditions, old books, ancient photos and research carried out at the ethnographic museum of Cuneo.

In performing the Occitan dances, the Artusin use the accompaniment of semitoun, ghironda, galoubet and violin instruments typical of traditional Occitan music.
From the beginning, “Artusin” have organized courses and workshops in Occitan dances that have always been very popular.
Finally, the dance group participates, when requested, to animate afternoons in retirement homes, schools and solidarity events.
